Recent Work

For the past two years Mark has worked with a large group of Przewalski horses on a semi-wild reserve in Lozere in the south of France. Within the 500 hectares of wild mountain plateau, the horses are left to fend for themselves, forming complex family groups decided upon by trials of strength between mature stallions. It has been fascinating to observe the often balletic range of body language with which the horses communicate.
The Przewalski horse, once extinct in the wild, has now been reintroduced to Mongolia thanks to pioneering projects such as this one. These sturdy horses are clearly the same animals as those depicted in the paleolithic cave art of  Chauvet and Lascaux. Working alone in a huge landscape with these survivors from prehistory, the link to our first recorded artistic forebears was almost tangible, and provided a great antidote to today's fashion driven sense of zeitgeist.

The Big Egg Hunt

Mark Adlington has joined an extraordinary collection of artists and designers including Sir Peter Blake, Vivienne Westwood, and the Chapman brothers, to paint a 74 cm fibreglass egg to raise money for charity. Commissioned by Marival & Co, creators of works of art, Mark's egg represents the regeneration of the Przewalski horse through the annual combats of the strongest stallions to establish dominance. The egg which is gilded with 23 carat gold leaf, is hanging in the Piccadilly Arcade. Bidding has already begun at www.thebigegghunt.co.uk/egg/198 !
